LITFEST-2023
Pushpalata Schools organised the second edition of Pushpalata Litfest from 21 August to 26 August 2023.Rev. Dr.V.Henry Jerome SJ, the Rector of St. Xavier’s Institutions, Palayamkottai presided over the inauguration ceremony and initiated the Book Fair. Students had a golden opportunity to interact with diverse authors, illustrators and storytellers.Mr. Rohan Chakravarthy shared his tricks to draw comics to depict different emotions. Ms. Roopa Pai introduced the world of Taranauts and Yoga sutras. Ms. Aditi Rao expounded how to build a story with the important elements like character graph, the setting and the plot. Mr. Ashok Rajagopalan made the students get involved in the stories through sounds. Author Greystrokeinteracted with the children and gave them some drawing tips. Mr.Adi Valliappan introduced his books, discussed them and brought an awareness of the need for environmental protection and planting trees by quoting Wangari Maathai as an example.Author Vizhian iterated the importance of reading books and spoke about story creation. Ms. Vidya Mani’s storytelling of her book Rohan’s Noisy Holiday enabled us to develop empathy by stepping into the shoes of different characters and experiencing different perspectives and led into a world of imagination. Mr. Chandramohan made the students dance and sing with their paper ducks during his sessionVaathu Raja. Puppeteer Rathy performed her wonderful stories using traditional Katputhli and Thol Pavai puppets for our students. A special session arranged for the students of the Mitra Centre for Autism Children with Author Ashok Rajagopalan and Puppeteer Rathy. Their stories and puppets kept the students entertained and engaged. Students of Class 6, 7 and 8 of Pushpalata British International School attended a workshop on creating a magazine called Magazine Mazaa. Authors Vidya Mani and Greystoke illustrated how text, illustration, graphics and design come together in creating a magazine. The students worked in groups on the different magazine pages assigned, for about 6 hours and successfully completed their first Magazine.
As a whole the Litfest was highly impactful as it kindled interest in students especially non-readers about books and stories.
