It was a great privilege and pride TWO Alumni of Pushpalata Matric Hr. Sec. School – Dr. Mohanasundar, Humanitarian and Sanitation Engineer, Netherlands and Mr. Platosen Samarasam, Organic Agriculturist, as our esteemed speakers on our YouTube channel “Pushpalata LearnEd – “Alumni Connect” on 2nd December 2020 at 5pm (IST). They spoke on the topic “Journey Through SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals)”, where in the year 2015, leaders from 193 countries of the world came together to face the future. They created a plan called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A set of 17 goals imagines a future just 15 years off that would be rid of poverty and hunger, clean water, better sanitation, gender equality and safe from the worst effects of climate change, to name a few.
Dr. Mohanasundar Radhakrishnan (Mohan) hails from an agrarian society in Tamil Nadu, India. He is an alumni of Pushpalata Matriculation school (1998 Batch). He is a registered volunteer with Mediciens Sans Frontier (MSF) and served as a Water and sanitation specialist in Loas towards improving the water, sanitation and waste disposal facilities of five hospitals in rural areas between Dec 2012 and May 2013. He obtained his PhD from IHE-Delft (Netherlands) and Technical University Delft on the subject of increasing their flood resilience of urban areas in the context of climate adaptation. He would soon start working as Water and Habitation Engineer with International Red Cross Committee (ICRC), coordinating the rehabilitation of water supply systems in Iraq.
Platosen Samarasam – Managing Director, ZUWA Organic Farms Pvt Ltd., has completed his B. Tech in Industrial Biotechnology from Anna University Guindy and MBA from Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME). After completing MBA left to Philippines to be the Executive Director of an International NGO -ASSIST (Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation) which worked primarily with Small and Medium Enterprise and their anchor industries on climate change, cleaner production, energy efficiency, greening of the supply chain, and sustainable consumption. In 2014 he decided to pursue his long term apassion in Agriculture and moved out of ASSIST to lay the foundation for ZUWA. He worked as Professor of Marketing in his Alma Matter XIME for 1 year till May 2015 and in parallel build up his business model of ZUWA Organic Farms Pvt Ltd.
The students, Parents and Teacher were inspired by their speech on their experiences and about their Journey through SDG’s. The Question and Answer session on their experiences and their Journey Through SDG’s were extremely interesting and thought provoking
