It was a great privilege to have Mr. Alphonse Roy, as our esteemed speaker on our YouTube channel “Pushpalata LearnEd on 27th November 2020 at 6pm (IST). He spoke on the topic “The Call of the Wild.
He is a native of Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli and has travelled widely and filmed wildlife in Africa, Amazon river, Bhutan, Srilanka & India.
Y Alphonse Roy is one of India’s Premiere and legendary Wildlife Cinematographer who has been in wilderness for 23 years, facing charging elephants, shadowing fierce tigers, filming Snow Leopards and other wildlife.
His entry into wildlife film making started at Bandhavgarh and he has to his credit, that he has shot the most number of films on Tigers.
Alphonse Roy came to fame when Animal Planet decided to shoot a film on him titled Great Cats of India. Tiger, Lion Leopard and Snow Leopard.
He is the recipient of many national and International Awards like:
- *Emmy Award for a one-hour film on Tibetan civilisation “Tibet: The End of Time” for Times Television, USA
- Lifetime Achievement Award at Chicago International HUGO Film Festival for film “Tiger Kill”
- WILDERTRAILS
Some of Roy’s works include:
- BBC’s Planet Earth Conservation, Natural History unit and Natural World.
- Cameraman and presenter of a Discovery-Animal Planet co-production.
- “Journey into Amazonia” for PBS America.
- “Once in a Lifetime Journey” for Reader’s Digest America.
- Three films for National Geographic on Columbia, Mizoram and Mongolia.
It was indeed a fascinating speech where he shared is experience with the wildlife.
